A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR ELECT
Let me open by saying thank you to Rich Henderson for his years of dedication to ASQRS and for serving as our chairman for the last two years. When Rich took on the chairmanship he set a goal to get the section’s finances in shape. It turned out to an ambitious goal, but Rich persevered, and I’m happy to report that he has accomplished what he set out to do. It certainly makes it easier to step into this role. Rich also took the step to find people to fill many of the open positions. I look forward to working with Rich and all others that want to get involved in a worldwide quality movement.
Bill Sonnefeld and I represented the Rochester Section at the ASQ World Conference held this year in St. Louis MO. The conference was truly enlightening and inspiring. In short, I came away from St. Louis with a renewed respect for ASQ and its members.
Most of you know that the Rochester Section was on the ground floor when ASQ was started. It is a good feeling to know that ASQRS was part of an effort to build what is now a worldwide organization. Bill and I both took the opportunity to meet many of the other attendees. I met many true quality professionals, dedicated to making life better through the implementation of quality tools. It is uplifting to see how many people are collaborating with each other to find innovative ways to use traditional quality tools to tackle problems in healthcare, education, the environment, and delivery of social services.
The conference opened with an address from Alan Mullay, the CEO of Ford. Mr. Mullay’s focus is quality, and this focus has created a positive change in the culture at Ford. The interactive session (fully half of the session was open to questions) was recorded and is available on the National ASQ web site. It is the worth the time to access and play this file. The link to the national Web can be accessed here: http://www.asq.org/members/index.html Other conference highlights are also available.
Over the next year I hope I can pass on some of the enthusiasm that I picked up in St. Louis. Our local chapter has a strong history and wide ranging membership. I’m looking forward to finding ways that that we can work together to advance our causes and careers.

HOW DOES A FREE CLASS SOUND?
From the Education Chair,
The Rochester ASQ section is offering several educational programs for the 2010/11 session. These programs are in the initial planning stages but at least one will be a refresher course for one of the ASQ exams. I'm looking for a few volunteers to help organize and host a session. This will involve attending several planning meetings and helping to coordinate one of the training sessions. The bonus is the person will be able to attend the session at no charge and get educational credits for recertification. Please contact Paul Bonsignore at paulbonsignore@hotmail.com if you are interested in volunteering.
Thank You,
Paul Bonsignore
